These are Japanese Sake bottle and a cup in which the Kokeshi motif for HIROTA GLASS. Kokeshi has become popular as a souvenir in wooden dolls of Japan. We made a form of the dolls in glass use the Edo glass of technology.Edo Glass is a handmade traditional craft that began in the Edo Period in the Edo Region (present-day Tokyo). Glass is melted at a high temperature in a crucible and then wound on a blowing iron, where it is blown and shaped into a variety of forms by skilled craftsmen. It is a technique which has been kept alive in the region for many generations. These craftsmen use traditional methods passed on from the Edo period to create painstakingly hand-crafted class wares with classic appeal that continues to this day in modern Tokyo.

徳利に盃を被せることで江戸硝子オブジェとしてインテリア性が高く、縁起物でもあるこけしをモチーフにした徳利と盃の酒器のセット。湯治場において求めた赤物こけしは、心身回復と五穀豊穣のイメージが重なった縁起物であり、それを自らの村へと運ぶ象徴的な形象でもあった。それゆえこけしは単に可愛いというだけではなく、逞しい生命力を秘めており、現代においては大人の鑑賞品としても扱われるようになっています。
